When a significant amount of tooth structure has been lost due to decay or trauma, or the tooth has undergone pulpal (nerve) treatment, the pediatric dentist will use a crown that covers the entire tooth. These can be made of stainless steel (for back molars) or tooth-colored resin (for front teeth).
